Twisted Hopscotch (I Love Sidewalk Chalk)

I made an early run to Walmart today.  Ok, for me early means we were out of the house before 9.  Apparently, that’s early for the rest of the world in my area too, because Walmart was not crowded.  Anyway, the point is that I got the LAST pack of sidewalk chalk.  Why the run on chalk all of a sudden??

The cool thing is, I was able to draw on my driveway, and make a couple patterns for a couple simple games.  These are probably 2 year old games, but they would work fine for kids a little older.  It’s tough for kids much younger though.

I love this game, because it’s easier than hopscotch, especially for kids who can’t throw very well, and don’t know their numbers.

I bet, if it’s rainy, you could do this in your garage too.

First, draw a bunch of random shapes in random colors on the ground. Don’t make them too far apart.

Have kids try to get from one side to the other, only stepping on shapes.

PS, the neon color is really green, and the pink is supposed to be red.  I don’t think chalk comes in a real “red”.

If you have kids who are a little older, you can make it harder by telling them to only use one foot, only touch one color or only touch one shape.  You could even give directions for which shape to do next. “Start with the blue square…”

While you have the chalk out, turn a piece sideways, and draw some large shapes with a fat line.

Use those shapes as a balance beam.   Ideally they will walk along the line, but they may be particularly precocious, and want to stand on their heads on the line…;)

Lol, love the leaf.:)

What is your favorite thing to do with sidewalk chalk? Have you ever seen real red?

  2. Haha, I feel the same way about “early”. I used to have to be out before the sun but now I am early if I am showered and dressed before 10am…..I have also never seen a real red chalk. They do always seem to come in pastels, don’t they? Thanks for your sweet comment on my chandelier. I love the color now too, waaaay better.
